Tip: build from the widest row and count outwards from the center. The preview mirrors perfectly on all four quadrants, so you only need to memorize one quarter.
How to build a circle in Minecraft
- Pick your diameter with the slider — this is the total width of the circle in blocks.
- Choose Outline for a ring or Filled for a solid disc (great for tower floors).
- Lay the widest middle row first, then work outward row by row, matching the highlighted squares in the chart.
- Because a circle is symmetrical, you only need to read one quarter and mirror it four ways.
Stack the same outline on multiple layers to make a cylinder or tower, or vary the diameter per layer to approximate a sphere or dome.
Odd vs even diameters
Odd diameters (like 7, 15, 21) have a single center block, so they look the most symmetrical and are usually what builders want. Even diameters (like 8, 16) have a two-block-wide center and can look slightly boxy at the poles. If a circle looks off, try bumping the diameter up or down by one.
- Small circles (2–8): great for pillars, wells and decorative accents.
- Medium circles (9–24): towers, fountains, roundabouts and arena walls.
- Large circles (25–64): domes, stadium borders and world-scale roundhouses.
From circle to sphere and dome
A sphere is just a stack of circles whose diameters follow the same curve. Start with your maximum diameter at the equator, then for each layer above and below, reduce the diameter using the vertical slice of a circle of the same size. Generate each layer here, note its block count, and you have a full cut list for a hollow sphere. For a dome, simply build the top half.
